9 October 2020: Royal Agricultural University: “The Royal Agricultural University has confirmed cases. A spokesperson said: “A handful of students at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU) have tested positive for Covid-19. “These students and others who they have been in contact with are self-isolating, and being supported by the University.”” Somerset Live.

12 October 2020: University of Bath reports 130 student cases in the last 7 days, 5 to 11 October. Note: as Bath gives numbers for only 7 days, we have started preserving the data on our University of Bath page.

12 October 2020: Bradford University release numbers: 15 cases from 5 to 8 October, 17 the previous week, for a running total of 32.

12 October 2020: Bristol University announce that they have 393 students and 3 staff test positive for Covid.

12 October 2020: Lancaster University have 182 new cases over the week 5 to 11 October, 81 from 9 October to 11 October; like the University of Reading, they erase data older than one week. From the records above, the total is 214.

12 October 2020: Oxford University announce 61 positive test in the last week, and a total of 91 positive tests since 20 August.

12 October 2020 (midday): University of Reading delete previous weeks statistics, and state that there have been 9 new cases so far this week commencing 12 October, and in the last 24 hours.

12 October 2020: Solent University: “As of this morning, (12 October 2020) we can confirm that 19 students have tested positive for Covid-19 – 15 currently reside in Southampton.”

12 October 2020: University of Sussex confirm 67 cases in total.

9 October 2020: University College Birmingham: “Third Birmingham university struck by coronavirus after 17 students test positive University College Birmingham said 17 students and one member of staff have Covid-19 after testing positive over the last week.” Birmingham Live.

9 October 2020: University of Northampton: “A number of students and staff members at the University of Northampton have tested positive for coronavirus. The university has announced in the last week there have been 10 confirmed cases.” Northants Live.

9 October 2020: University of West London: “Hello, we are at The University of West London. Living at Paragon Student Letts in London. Yesterday my flat tested positive for COVID-19. Most of us also have symptoms. No- we did not go to parties, yes- we did everything we could to prevent this. 9 October 2020: Bristol: “Today it was announced that 300 students in The Courtrooms, in Bristol’s city centre, would be placed under a two week self-isolation period effective immediately after 40 positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed at the accommodation.” Epigram.

10 October 2020: Cardiff University: “Students are taking coronavirus tests at a university hall of residence in Cardiff. It comes after a number of students living at the Talybont South halls, have tested positive for Covid-19 in recent days. 8 October 2020: Nottingham Trent decline to release numbers of confirmed cases: “As confirmed COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University (NTU) has been called upon to release their daily confirmed cases of students with coronavirus. “We don’t think it is helpful to provide daily updates regarding numbers of confirmed cases as the situation will change daily and we want to avoid confusion with local public health reporting.”” Platform.

8 October 2020: Univeristy of Lincoln: “Six students at the University of Lincoln living in a student house have tested positive for coronavirus, The Lincoln Tab can reveal. 8 October 2020: University of Gloucestershire: “Coronavirus cases at the University of Gloucestershire have more than doubled in just over a week. 7 October 2020: King’s College London: “As we reported on 4 October 2020, we were recently notified of four individuals who attended a King’s College London Student Union (KCLSU) organised event in a KCLSU venue who have tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). In the first week of term from Monday 28 September – Friday 2 October, an additional 17 isolated positive cases were reported to our Covid response team through our reporting process.” KCL.

7 October 2020: London School of Economics: “Community rates of COVID-19, gathered through testing and LSE Trace at 9am on 5 October are: 11 cases (10 students, 1 staff member), 386 students and staff are self-isolating. 7 October 2020: Oxford Brookes: “One hundred new cases of coronavirus have been identified at Oxford Brookes University. In the week leading up to October 2 (last Friday), 98 students and two members of staff tested positive for Covid-19. 3 October 2020: Northumbria University have issued a clarification on their figures: “Northumbria University want to clarify the recorded figure of 770 published yesterday is the cumulative number of students who have reported testing positive since they started to return to University for the start of term in mid-September. Those affected live in different student and non-student accommodation and have been advised to self-isolate in line with national guidance to try and limit further spread of the virus. The new self-reported cases on 2nd October were 78, which is the lowest daily figure for 5 days and whilst this is encouraging, we remain vigilant to further cases in our university community.” Northumbria University. 2 October 2020: “The University of Bristol has confirmed multiple coronavirus cases among its student population. It said “a very small number of students” have tested positive for covid-19, but did not release an exact number. A spokesperson said: “A very small number of students have tested positive for COVID-19, including one in a hall of residence where eight contacts are self-isolating.” Bristol Post. The Tab.

1 October 2020: Lancaster University start releasing statistics for covid cases. “In the period from 26th September to 1st October, the University received the following number of reports of new cases among students and staff: Staff: 0. Students (living in Lancaster University accommodation): 1. Students (living in other accommodation in the Lancaster area): 13.” Lancaster University.

3 October 2020: Cambridge: “Two students at Queens’ have tested positive for Covid-19. One of the students who tested positive for the virus is living on main-site Queens’ accommodation. The discovery of the positive cases last Saturday (26/09) has prompted Queens’ to instigate their Test and Trace system developed over the summer. As a result of this 25 individuals were told to isolate, with 15 of these individuals now no longer isolating after negative test results – some of which were returned within 24 hours.” Varsity.

1 October 2020: University of Manchester: “The University of Manchester has revealed that 221 of its staff and students have tested positive for coronavirus – but there are fears the numbers could be much higher in reality. After coming under pressure from campus unions, the University said it would publish daily figures to be as “transparent as possible”. 2 October 2020: St. Andrews: “Since 1 September, a total of 33 people associated with the University community have had positive tests for Covid, comprising 31 students and two members of staff. As of today, 22 of these cases remain active; 11 people have recovered and completed their periods of isolation. So far, all have reported comparatively mild illness. York St John University is one of 40 universities across the UK that has recorded cases of coronavirus. A spokesman for the university said: “Since the beginning of term on 21 September, York St John University has reported fewer than 10 positive COVID 19 cases amongst staff and students. ” All cases are unconnected and do not constitute an outbreak. “Some universities have been told not to release the number of cases by public health officials.

A spokesperson for the University of Nottingham told Sky News: “Regional Public Health England is currently asking us not to release institutional data for a couple of reasons – they are keen not to confuse their formal weekly data releases but they are also mindful of undermining the message that in the East Midlands, COVID-19 is affecting all demographics and so all demographics should have responsibility to protect health and follow the rules.””
