12 October 2020: Harper-Adams University: One case so far, according to their dashboard.

9 October 2020: Royal Agricultural University: “The Royal Agricultural University has confirmed cases. A spokesperson said: “A handful of students at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU) have tested positive for Covid-19. “These students and others who they have been in contact with are self-isolating, and being supported by the University.”” Somerset Live.

University Released Numbers

12 October 2020: University of Bath reports 130 student cases in the last 7 days, 5 to 11 October. Note: as Bath gives numbers for only 7 days, we have started preserving the data on our University of Bath page.

12 October 2020: Bradford University release numbers: 15 cases from 5 to 8 October, 17 the previous week, for a running total of 32.

12 October 2020: Bristol University announce that they have 393 students and 3 staff test positive for Covid.

12 October 2020: Lancaster University have 182 new cases over the week 5 to 11 October, 81 from 9 October to 11 October; like the University of Reading, they erase data older than one week. From the records above, the total is 214.

12 October 2020: University of Nottingham release figures for active confirmed cases week ending 9 October 2020: 1510 students and 20 staff. Archived.

12 October 2020: Oxford University announce 61 positive test in the last week, and a total of 91 positive tests since 20 August.

12 October 2020 (midday): University of Reading delete previous weeks statistics, and state that there have been 9 new cases so far this week commencing 12 October, and in the last 24 hours.

12 October 2020: Solent University: “As of this morning, (12 October 2020) we can confirm that 19 students have tested positive for Covid-19 – 15 currently reside in Southampton.”

12 October 2020: University of Sussex confirm 67 cases in total.

12 October 2020: University of Warwick‘s cumulative data to some time on Monday 12 October: 216 active cases. Archived.

5 October 2020: Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts: “Molly is studying at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA), so she had access to some practical classes before her housemate was diagnosed with Covid-19.” The Impartial Reporter.

9 October 2020: University College Birmingham: “Third Birmingham university struck by coronavirus after 17 students test positive University College Birmingham said 17 students and one member of staff have Covid-19 after testing positive over the last week.” Birmingham Live.

9 October 2020: University of Northampton: “A number of students and staff members at the University of Northampton have tested positive for coronavirus. The university has announced in the last week there have been 10 confirmed cases.” Northants Live.

9 October 2020: University of West London: “Hello, we are at The University of West London. Living at Paragon Student Letts in London. Yesterday my flat tested positive for COVID-19. Most of us also have symptoms. No- we did not go to parties, yes- we did everything we could to prevent this. We isolated as soon as we knew we had come into contact with a positive case 3 days ago.” Post goes on to describe terrible conditions and complete lack of institutional support. Facebook.

9 October 2020: Bristol: “Today it was announced that 300 students in The Courtrooms, in Bristol’s city centre, would be placed under a two week self-isolation period effective immediately after 40 positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed at the accommodation.” Epigram.

10 October 2020: Cardiff University: “Students are taking coronavirus tests at a university hall of residence in Cardiff. It comes after a number of students living at the Talybont South halls, have tested positive for Covid-19 in recent days. Many are voluntarily self-isolating so the regional Cardiff and Vale test, trace and protect service has begun testing on site as a precautionary measure.” Wales Online.

9 October 2020: UEA: “The number of confirmed coronavirus cases at the University of East Anglia has increased to 73, it has been revealed.” Norwich Evening News.

9 October 2020: U”Greenwich University confirmed that there have now been 18 student cases and 2 staff cases of Covid-19 within the community, but has assured that they are all being given support during isolation.” News Shopper.

9 October 2020: Lancaster University: “1,000 Lancaster University students self-isolating as Covid cases soar Since last Thursday (October 1), a total of 105 students and staff have reported Covid-positive cases to the university.” Lancs Live.

8 October 2020: Nottingham Trent decline to release numbers of confirmed cases: “As confirmed COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University (NTU) has been called upon to release their daily confirmed cases of students with coronavirus. “We don’t think it is helpful to provide daily updates regarding numbers of confirmed cases as the situation will change daily and we want to avoid confusion with local public health reporting.”” Platform.

9 October 2020: Edge Hill: The V.C. of Edge Hill acknowledges cases in student accommodation. “Whilst the number of residential students diagnosed with the coronavirus represents only one per cent of the total residential population, the numbers required to self-isolate  is, of course, proportionally greater.” Source: internal communication.

8 October 2020: Falmouth University: “Falmouth University has confirmed there has been a ‘small increase’ in the number of positive tests for Covid-19 at one of its campuses. On September 25, the university confirmed that there was initially a “very small number of cases” at the campus.” Cornwall Live.

8 October 2020: Bath Spa: “Nine positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at Bath Spa University.” Somerset Live.

9 October 2020: Bristol University: “The Courtrooms hall of residence in Bristol City Centre has gone into lockdown, Bristol Uni has announced. 40 students have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Courtrooms, meaning that the whole hall – around 300 students – will be restricted to their Living Circles (or “bubbles”) for 14 days.” The Tab. 9 October 2020: Bristol University: “The University of Bristol have reported that positive coronavirus cases have doubled in the last two days. The university only started making case numbers public on Wednesday, but since then the reported figure of positive coronavirus cases has increased from 121 cases to 254. 8 October 2020: Durham: “All students living at St Mary’s and Collingwood Colleges have been told not to leave campus for the next seven days, following an increased number of Covid-19 cases.” Palatinate.

10 September 2020: University of the West of England: Single student tests positive at Frenchay Campus. Bristol Post.

22 September 2020: “87 coronavirus cases confirmed at University of Liverpool in a week. University says campus measures have helped to detect cases but union says plans for teaching are dangerous.” Liverpool Echo.

22 September 2020: “12 individuals who have been confirmed by Public Health Wales (PHW) to have tested positive for coronavirus, are students at the University.” Swansea University.

22 September 2020: “Glasgow University’s Cairncross House is thought to have had more than 20 students test positive for Covid in the past few days with more self isolating.” Glasgow Evening Times. Uni of Glasgow Twitter statement.

In other news, new restrictions have been announced for the whole of the U.K. However, little was said specifically about universities, other than “We will ensure that schools, colleges and universities stay open – because nothing is more important than the education, health and well-being of our young people.” Gov.uk. How this will be ensured is not stated. Similarly, there was no mention of universities in the Scottish First Ministers speech, beyond a determination to keep “young people in education.” Scot.gov. In Northern Ireland, the First Minster has said that the new restrictions don’t affect students going home at weekends, but that this may change in the future. BBC.
