2 November 2020: University of Bath: “The daily reports covering the period from October 28 to November 1 have recorded a total of 67 new cases, all of them being found among students.” Somerset Live.

30 October 2020: Bristol University: “Bristol University reported 36 new coronavirus cases across students and staff on Friday, bringing the total number of reported cases on campus to 1,694 as the UK prepared to enter a second national lockdown.” Epigram.

30 October 2020: University of Bedfordshire have 1 live staff case, and 7 live student cases, and 8 students self-isolating with symptoms.

30 October 2020: Bournemouth University: “We are continuing to see a small number of new cases at the university. The number of new positive cases at the university in the last seven days stands at 47 across the whole BU population of 1,723 staff and 16,606 students.” By our count, the cumulative total is 341 cases.

2 November 2020: Kingston University: “Number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 reported to the University in the week up to Friday 30 October: 16.” Our running total: 50 cases.

26 October 2020: Heriot-Watt: As of 26 October 2020, there are 9 students and under 5 staff testing positive. Source: Internal communication.

27 October 2020: University of Lincoln: “Some 176 students and staff at the University of Lincoln have tested positive for coronavirus. The data released on Tuesday, October 27 is more than double last week’s figure of 85, although the newest number is less than 1% of the University’s population.” The Lincolnite.

22 October 2020: Newcastle University: From 15 October to 21 October, 237 students and 5 staff tested positive. From 8 October to 14 October, 749 students and 11 staff tested positive. We estimate (due to problems with the data) that the total number of cases are 2091 students, 42 staff testing positive. UCU’s combined figures for students and staff are 2012. 26 October 2020: University of Portsmouth: “There are 126 students and staff who are COVID positive and are currently self-isolating at the University. Of these 126 active cases, 123 cases are students, and 3 are staff.” Source: Internal communication.

27 October 2020: Kingston University launch a dashboard, without older data, and with the average per 100,000 cases (more than five times its own population). 12 cases in the week up to 23 October. Our running total: 34 cases.

22 October 2020: Kingston University: “Staff at Kingston University (KU) have criticised the university’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, saying that current instructions for some staff members put teachers and students at risk.” University states “Up-to-date statistical information about any live Covid-19 cases for staff and students will soon be made available on the University’s website as part of our commitment to keeping our community informed around our response to the pandemic.” Surrey Comet.

22 October 2020: Robert Gordon University: “An ongoing multi-agency investigation has confirmed that there has been a total of 63 cases of Covid-19 identified within Robert Gordon University’s student population. “This figure includes those living in various locations – including university halls of residents, private flats and private halls elsewhere.” BBC.

21 October 2020: St Marys University, Twickenham, start releasing figures. For the week ending 13 October, 6 students and 1 staff member tested positive; for the week ending 20 October, 5 students. In total, 11 students and 1 staff member, 7 October to 20 October, plus the undisclosed students and staff prior to that.

22 October 2020: University of the West of England: 117 positive cases in the last seven days. 41 on the 20 October, 27 on the 21 October.

14 October 2020: University of Birmingham: “Over 600 Covid-positive students at University of Birmingham after 300 further cases.” “The University of Birmingham confirmed 301 students and five members of staff have tested positive for coronavirus after reporting 315 cases the previous week.” Birmingham Mail.

13 October 2020: University of Bristol / University of West England: On why there is such a great discrepancy between their numbers of cases: “While Bristol University started to welcome students on campus on September 18, UWE students have just started to move into halls now.” Bristol Post.

14 October 2020: University of Chester: “In a statement, the university’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Debora Green confirmed the number of positive results has “now entered double figures” – although an exact number was not disclosed.” Chester Standard.

14 October 2020: University of Leeds: “Last week, the university announced that 558 positive tests were returned within the first seven days of term, as a major outbreak spread quickly among students returning the to city. However, it was later revealed that a further 82 people also tested positive between Monday, September 28 and Sunday, October 4. It has now been revealed that a further 269 staff, students and contractors at the University of Leeds caught Covid-19 in the seven days to October 11, taking the total since the start of term to 909.” Leeds Live.

14 October 2020: “Some 36 University of Lincoln students tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, and one member of staff. It comes after six students at the university tested positive for coronavirus last week, but those were off campus. The University of Lincoln said: “As of 9am this morning (Wednesday) the University of Lincoln has 37 positive coronavirus cases (less than 0.3% of the university community). “One of those is a member of staff. We are in regular contact and providing support as necessary to self-isolating students and staff.”” The Lincolnite.

15 October 2020: Newcastle University: 749 students, 11 staff testing positive in the week 8 to 14 October; the totals for 1 to 14 October are 1752 students, 18 staff. Newcastle UCU on Twitter.

14 October 2020: University of Sunderland: A spokesman said “As of today (14 October) 111 students and 13 staff have received a positive Covid-19 test since counting began at the beginning of this academic year. Of these cases, 13 are new in the last seven days.” Chronicle Live.

3 October 2020: Northumbria University have issued a clarification on their figures: “Northumbria University want to clarify the recorded figure of 770 published yesterday is the cumulative number of students who have reported testing positive since they started to return to University for the start of term in mid-September. Those affected live in different student and non-student accommodation and have been advised to self-isolate in line with national guidance to try and limit further spread of the virus. The new self-reported cases on 2nd October were 78, which is the lowest daily figure for 5 days and whilst this is encouraging, we remain vigilant to further cases in our university community.” Northumbria University. 5 October 2020: Durham University begin publishing statistics. As of 4 October, they had 76 students and 3 staff test positive.

4 October 2020: Loughborough University: “Around 20 students at Loughborough University are self-isolating after two cases of coronavirus were confirmed. The university has said the two infected students live in separate households on campus.” Leicester Mercury.
