16 October 2020: University of Bedfordshire start releasing numbers: 5 staff and 2 students testing positive.

17 October 2020: Bournemouth University: A lecturer at Bournemouth University, who wants to be anonymous, is angry that the university has not made its Covid numbers public. “Every single student hall at Bournemouth has cases, from a single isolation, to a whole corridor. There are more than 100 cases but the management thinks this should be kept confidential.” The Guardian.

16 October 2020: Cambridge: Homerton College: “Following advice from Public Health England and local public health authorities, the Collegiate University’s Incident Management Team has asked 223 students resident in West House, Homerton College to self-isolate from 9.30pm on Friday 16 October following 18 positive cases.”

16 October 2020: University of Hertfordshire: 5 new student cases, bringing the total since 28 September to 30. Source: Internal communication.

16 October 2020: Oxford: “University College have told all students at their accommodation site in North Oxford to stay within their households, from this afternoon. This includes almost 100 second-year undergraduates and some graduate students. The college told students in an email that the lockdown has been caused by “a spike in positive Covid-19 tests among Univ students”. Students are waiting on “further advice” about how long the lockdown will last, and it is described as a “precautionary measure”. This is the first known case of accommodation-wide isolation in Oxford, though many other colleges have households currently in isolation. Other colleges may also be dealing with significant clusters.” Cherwell.

17 October 2020: Swansea University: “The number of coronavirus cases at Swansea University has risen to 136 and 451 students are currently in self-isolation. It is a four-fold increase on the number reported at the end of September. At that time, all 32 positive coronavirus cases at the university were linked to a single house party, attended by one infected person. There are are 73 current coronavirus cases at the university.” Wales Online.

15 October 2020: University of Edinburgh: “We have a total of 180 live cases reported to us as of today amongst our students and staff.”

15 October 2020: Bournemouth University: “Public Health Dorset said: “We are continuing to see a number of positive cases amongst university students in the Bournemouth area, as is to be expected. At the moment these cases are dispersed across the student population and different residences. Currently the number of cases amongst students in Bournemouth continues to be relatively low compared to elsewhere in the UK but we are working with universities, BCP Council and Public Health England South West to monitor the situation and respond accordingly.” Bridport News.

16 October 2020: Chester University: ” The University of Chester has released a further statement after concerns were raised regarding the number of positive cases there reaching ‘double figures’. In the first statement, released on Thursday, October 15, the institution confirmed the number of positive cases for coronavirus had reach ‘double figures’. Pro Vice Chancellor, Debora Green, had suggested half of these cases came from permanent residents, rather than those residing at a ‘term-time address’.” Chester Live.

13 October 2020: Coventry University: They “have confirmed that 36 students had Covid-19 for the week ending on October 6. Of these, 21 had been on campus and 15 off campus.” Additionally, “one member of staff confirmed to have Covid-19.” Coventry Live.

16 October 2020: University of East Anglia: 7 new student cases over the last 24 hours. In total,  86 students and 1 staff member have tested positive for covid. Source: Internal communication

14 October 2020: Oxford Brookes: “In the week leading up to October 9 (last Friday), there were 96 positive results. Only one of them was a member of staff and the other 95 were students.” Oxford Mail. By our reckoning, this give a total of 281 students and 3 staff tested positive since September 7.

14 October 2020: Royal Holloway release numbers: “As of Tuesday 13 October, there are 23 students and no members of staff who are currently self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus.” An eyewitness reports that Wedderburn Halls are locked down.

13 October 2020: Warwick University: “As of yesterday (Monday, October 12), 215 students at Warwick had tested positive, with 186 of those on campus and 29 off campus.” Additionally, “one member of staff confirmed to have Covid-19.” Coventry Live.

14 October 2020: University of Birmingham: “Over 600 Covid-positive students at University of Birmingham after 300 further cases.” “The University of Birmingham confirmed 301 students and five members of staff have tested positive for coronavirus after reporting 315 cases the previous week.” Birmingham Mail.

13 October 2020: University of Bristol / University of West England: On why there is such a great discrepancy between their numbers of cases: “While Bristol University started to welcome students on campus on September 18, UWE students have just started to move into halls now.” Bristol Post.

14 October 2020: University of Chester: “In a statement, the university’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Debora Green confirmed the number of positive results has “now entered double figures” – although an exact number was not disclosed.” Chester Standard.

14 October 2020: University of Leeds: “Last week, the university announced that 558 positive tests were returned within the first seven days of term, as a major outbreak spread quickly among students returning the to city. However, it was later revealed that a further 82 people also tested positive between Monday, September 28 and Sunday, October 4. It has now been revealed that a further 269 staff, students and contractors at the University of Leeds caught Covid-19 in the seven days to October 11, taking the total since the start of term to 909.” Leeds Live.

14 October 2020: “Some 36 University of Lincoln students tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, and one member of staff. It comes after six students at the university tested positive for coronavirus last week, but those were off campus. The University of Lincoln said: “As of 9am this morning (Wednesday) the University of Lincoln has 37 positive coronavirus cases (less than 0.3% of the university community). “One of those is a member of staff. We are in regular contact and providing support as necessary to self-isolating students and staff.”” The Lincolnite.

15 October 2020: Newcastle University: 749 students, 11 staff testing positive in the week 8 to 14 October; the totals for 1 to 14 October are 1752 students, 18 staff. Newcastle UCU on Twitter.

14 October 2020: University of Sunderland: A spokesman said “As of today (14 October) 111 students and 13 staff have received a positive Covid-19 test since counting began at the beginning of this academic year. Of these cases, 13 are new in the last seven days.” Chronicle Live.

9 October 2020: Royal Agricultural University: “The Royal Agricultural University has confirmed cases. A spokesperson said: “A handful of students at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU) have tested positive for Covid-19. “These students and others who they have been in contact with are self-isolating, and being supported by the University.”” Somerset Live.

12 October 2020: Bradford University release numbers: 15 cases from 5 to 8 October, 17 the previous week, for a running total of 32.

12 October 2020: Bristol University announce that they have 393 students and 3 staff test positive for Covid.

12 October 2020: Lancaster University have 182 new cases over the week 5 to 11 October, 81 from 9 October to 11 October; like the University of Reading, they erase data older than one week. From the records above, the total is 214.

9 October 2020: Bristol: “Today it was announced that 300 students in The Courtrooms, in Bristol’s city centre, would be placed under a two week self-isolation period effective immediately after 40 positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed at the accommodation.” Epigram.

10 October 2020: Cardiff University: “Students are taking coronavirus tests at a university hall of residence in Cardiff. It comes after a number of students living at the Talybont South halls, have tested positive for Covid-19 in recent days. 8 October 2020: Nottingham Trent: “NTU – like many other universities – has a number of students who are in self-isolation. 7 October 2020: Oxford Brookes: “One hundred new cases of coronavirus have been identified at Oxford Brookes University. In the week leading up to October 2 (last Friday), 98 students and two members of staff tested positive for Covid-19. 7 October 2020: “The University of Bradford has reported 26 confirmed cases of coronavirus among students and members of staff. As of October 6, the University said 23 students and three members of staff have tested positive.” Telegraph & Argus.

6 October 2020: Cardiff University: More than 100 Cardiff University students are self-isolating after 19 tested positive for coronavirus. A Cardiff University spokesman warned the number of positive cases is “likely to be higher”. The university said: “We currently have 132 students who are self-isolating, amongst a total student population of some 30,000.” Wales Online.
